2021, the year of Military Coups in Africa

In 2021, there were four successful military takeovers across the continent – in Chad, Mali, Guinea and Sudan.

Guinea’s September 5 coup was neither the first nor the last power grab this year in sub-Saharan Africa. There had been four successful military takeovers across the continent, up from one last year.

In October 2021, Sudan’s military detained the country’s civilian leaders and seized power in October, about a month after authorities said they had thwarted an attempted coup they blamed on plotters loyal to former ruler Omar al-Bashir.

In May 2021, Mali soldiers had their second coup in the space of 10 months.

The Atlas of Birds of Kerala is Asia's largest bird atlas in terms of geographical extent, sampling effort and species coverage. Spix's macaw (Cyanopsitta spixii), also known as the little blue macaw, is a macaw native to Brazil. It is a member of tribe Arini in the subfamily Arinae.
The Spix's macaw is one of the rarest birds in the world: it is estimated that there are only 177 captive individuals in the world.
In the movie Rio, Blu is a Spix’s macaw that gets kidnapped and taken to Brazil.

Parrot Thought To Be Extinct In The Wild Spotted Soaring Free
The incredible sighting was caught on tape.

Spix's macaw has been spotted for the first time since 2000 flying near the town of Curaçá, Brazil.

Sadly, it disappeared from the wild in 2000 because of deforestation and shifting agriculture practices. Recently, however, some potential sightings have been reported near Brazil’s border with Paraguay, which has given conservationists hope that this magnificent bird may not be extinct after all.

“You should have seen the joy of the people when I got there, saying the macaw was back,” Develey told The BBC.
According to BirdLife International, a conservation group that assessed the status of the bird, the Spix’s macaw was thought to be extinct in the wild due to pet trade trapping and loss of habitat...
